Project Management Essentials

Project management requires the development and application of tools, processes, methods, skills, knowledge, experience and mindset to achieve specific project objectives in line with set requirements and conditions.

This intensive and practical course will provide attendees with all the fundamentals they need in order to take an active and valuable role in projects and project teams.

Objectives:

The objectives of the course are:

1. To understand what projects are, the scope of project management, what the role of a project manager is and what documents and tools are required for successful project management.

2. To be able to manage and take part in the five phases of project management - project initiation, project planning, project execution, project monitoring and control, and project close.

3. To improve time management and organisation on projects using tools and approaches relevant to project management including Gantt and PERT charts, Kanban boards, work breakdown structures (WBS) and more.

4. To advance competences in risk management, change management and procurement in the context of project management.

5. To develop communication skills for project management and the capability to interact with other teams, overcome silo mentality and deal with conflicts of interest as they arise.

6. To understand why projects might fail and what can be done to proactively prevent project failure through use of tools such as pre-mortem analysis and FMEA.

7. To assess and evaluate case studies of best practice in project management and produce plans for application of the training at work.
